The price covers one 10-yard roll-off dumpster dropped where you want it, 30 days to fill it, pickup, and disposal of up to 3 tons of debris. Allowed debris: household junk, furniture, construction and remodel debris, roofing and yard waste.

Extra costs, only if they apply

• $50 per ton over 3 tons. The load is weighed at the disposal site.
• $8 per day if you keep it longer than 30 days.
• Items landfills charge extra for, like mattresses or tires, where they are accepted. See what can't go in.
• A city permit if the dumpster has to sit on the street. Not needed on your own driveway in most places.

Concrete, dirt, brick and other heavy debris are not part of this offer, because a load of rock weighs far more than 3 tons. Heavy debris is priced on its own.

Size and fit

The 10-yard is the smallest common roll-off. It is low, so it is easy to toss things over the side, and it fits on most driveways with room to spare. It is also the size haulers use for heavy material like concrete and dirt, because a bigger box full of rock would be too heavy to lift or drive legally.

Outside size about 12 ft long, 8 ft wide, 3.5 ft high. It holds about 3 pickup-truck loads. You need a flat spot about 12 feet long and 8 to 11 feet wide, plus room for the truck to back in.
