How we write and check our guides

Our guides exist to help you pick the right dumpster, load it well and avoid surprise fees. Here is who writes them, where the numbers come from and how we keep them current.

Who writes them

Guides on this site are written by the Dumpster Dingo Team, the people who run Dumpster Dingo and deliver dumpsters with our local haulers. Each guide is bylined by Joe Whitaker, our Dumpster Expert & Enthusiast, who reviews it before it goes live.

A guide's figures are checked against the sources it lists before its review date is set.

Where the numbers come from

  • Government and industry references for facts that apply everywhere, such as what household hazardous waste is, refrigerant rules for old fridges and AC units, and how much common materials weigh.
  • How roll-off rentals typically work: common sizes, weight allowances, rental periods and fees, given as typical figures because they vary by area.
  • Your local disposal site and city, which set the final rules for your address. Your written quote reflects them.

Each guide that relies on an outside reference lists it in a "Sources and review" section at the bottom of the page.

How we show prices, sizes and weights

  • Our guides don't list prices, because a dumpster price depends on your address, debris and dates. Your exact delivered price comes with your quote.
  • Dimensions and weight allowances are typical figures. They vary a little by area, and your quote states the ones that apply.
  • Fixed-price offers are the exception: their stated price is the price you pay for the offer as described.
  • Rules for what can go in a dumpster vary by state, county and disposal site. We describe what is typical and say so.

Dates on our guides

Every guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We change that date only when we have re-checked the guide's figures, not to make a page look new. The "Sources and review" section also shows when the guide was first published.

Photos and illustrations

Photos on this site are illustrative and do not show specific customer jobs. Size diagrams are drawn to scale from typical dimensions.

What we don't publish

  • Customer reviews, ratings or testimonials. We don't have any to show yet, and we won't make them up.
  • Claims about being the cheapest or the best.
  • Names of other dumpster rental companies, or comparisons with them.

Corrections

If you spot something wrong or out of date, tell us through the contact page and name the page. When we correct a figure, we update the guide and its review date.
