Dumpster rental for roofing and shingle tear-offs
Tearing off a roof produces a lot of weight in a short time. The right dumpster sits close to the eave so shingles go straight from the roof into the box, and it comes with a weight allowance that fits your roof, not a generic one.
Sizes that fit roofing jobs
Most roofing jobs land between a 10 and a 20-yard. Our usual starting point is the 20-yard.

Size by weight, not just space
Asphalt shingles are dense. A single layer on an average-size house runs roughly 2 to 4 tons, and a second layer doubles that. That is why roofers often use 10 to 20-yard boxes rather than bigger ones: a 30-yard full of shingles would be far over any normal weight limit.
Tell us the approximate roof size (or the number of squares, if you know it) and how many layers are coming off. We match the box and weight allowance to that.
Placement
The box goes as close to the drip edge as the driveway allows. Tarps on the shrubs and a magnet sweep at the end are on the roofer, but placing the dumpster well saves everybody time.
Some areas recycle clean shingle loads (shingles only, no wood or trash) at a lower rate. Ask, it can save money on big roofs.
Weather
Rain soaks underlayment and adds weight. If the forecast looks wet, ask about a tarp for the box between workdays.
Debris type: roofing shingles
Asphalt shingles, felt and synthetic underlayment, flashing, roofing nails.
Shingles are heavy: roughly 2 to 4 tons per layer on an average-size house. We size the weight allowance to your roof.
Some items can't go in any dumpster: paint, tires, batteries, appliances with refrigerant and hazardous chemicals among them. See the full list.
Roofing questions
What size dumpster for a roof tear-off?
For most single-layer roofs on an average home, a 15 or 20-yard. Small roofs or a garage fit a 10. Two layers or a large house may need a second haul. Weight sets the limit with shingles.
What happens if we go over the weight limit?
Overage is billed per ton at the local landfill rate, typically around $50 to $125 per ton. We size the allowance to your roof to keep that from happening.
Can the old plywood decking go in too?
Yes. Rotten decking, flashing, nails and underlayment are normal roofing debris. Mixing them in may rule out a shingle-only recycling rate where that exists.
