FAQ

Dumpster rental questions, answered

If your question isn't here, send it with your quote request or through the contact page and a person will answer it.

Booking and pricing

How does Dumpster Dingo work?

You tell us your ZIP, the size you need (or your project, and we help pick), what is going in, and when. We line up a vetted local hauler and a real person sends you one all-in delivered price by text or email. If you say yes, we book it and stay your point of contact until the dumpster is picked up.

Do you own the dumpsters?

No. We are a booking service. Dumpsters are owned, delivered and hauled by independent local hauling companies. We find the right one for your address and job, agree the price, and handle the booking, changes and questions for you.

How much does a dumpster rental cost?

Typical prices run from about $325 for a 10-yard to about $950 for a 40-yard, and up to around $1,300 in high-cost areas or for long rentals. Your exact price depends on your ZIP, the size, the debris type and the rental length. See the pricing page for typical ranges by size.

What is included in the price?

Your quote spells it out. It typically covers delivery, pickup, disposal up to a weight allowance, and the rental period (7 days is most common). Anything that could add cost, like extra days, going over the weight allowance or certain items, is listed in the quote before you book.

Do I pay anything to get a quote?

No. Quotes are free and you are not committed to anything until you confirm the booking.

How fast can I get a dumpster?

Often within a day or two, sometimes the next day, depending on the local hauler schedule and the season. Tell us your date in the quote form and we will tell you what is possible.

Sizes and weight

What size dumpster do I need?

Roughly: a 10-yard for a single room, a small bathroom, or any heavy debris like concrete; a 15-yard for a kitchen remodel or a full garage; a 20-yard for whole-house cleanouts and most roofs; a 30-yard for major renovations; a 40-yard for new construction. If you are between two sizes, the bigger one is usually cheaper than a second haul.

What is a "yard"?

A cubic yard: a cube 3 feet on each side. A 20-yard dumpster holds about 20 cubic yards of debris, roughly 6 pickup-truck loads.

What is the weight limit?

Every rental includes a weight allowance, typically 1 to 2 tons for 10 to 20-yard dumpsters and 3 to 4 tons for 30 and 40-yards. It varies by hauler and area, and your quote states the exact number.

What happens if I go over the weight limit?

The hauler weighs the load at the disposal site and charges for the extra, typically around $50 to $125 per ton depending on local landfill rates. The rate is in your quote. Heavy materials like shingles, concrete, dirt and wet debris are what usually push loads over.

Why does concrete or dirt have to go in a 10-yard?

Weight. A cubic yard of concrete or soil weighs well over a ton. A bigger box filled with rock would be too heavy for the truck to lift or to carry legally on public roads, so heavy debris goes in a 10-yard filled to a line the hauler marks.

Can I fill it to the top?

Up to the top edge, yes. Not above it. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be tarped and hauled safely, and the driver may ask you to take some out before pickup.

Delivery and placement

Where can the dumpster go?

Most go on a driveway. You need a flat spot about the length of the box (12 to 22 feet), about 8 to 11 feet wide, plus room for the truck to back in, and clear overhead space with no low wires or branches.

Will it damage my driveway?

Roll-offs are heavy, and full ones are heavier. Haulers typically set the box on boards to spread the weight, and you can ask for them. Avoid placing on soft ground, fresh asphalt or decorative pavers if you can.

Do I need a permit?

Not on your own driveway or property in most places. If the dumpster has to go on the street, sidewalk or a public alley, most cities require a permit. Some HOAs also have rules. We will tell you what applies at your address.

Do I need to be home for delivery?

No, as long as the spot is clear and marked. Many people put a car or cones where they want it. Tell us any gate codes or special instructions in the quote form.

What can go in

What can I put in a dumpster?

Household junk, furniture, construction and remodel debris, roofing, yard waste and (in a 10-yard) heavy debris like concrete. Each area has its own rules, and your quote notes anything special.

What is not allowed?

Typically: paint and solvents, hazardous chemicals, tires, car batteries and other batteries, appliances with refrigerant (fridges, freezers, AC units), propane tanks, medical waste, asbestos, and electronics in many states. See the prohibited items page for the full list and what to do with them instead.

Can I put a mattress in?

Often yes, with a per-item fee because landfills charge extra. A few areas do not accept them in roll-offs. Mention it when you request a quote.

Rental period and changes

How long can I keep it?

Choose 3, 7, 14 or 30 days. Seven days is the most common. If you need more time, extra days are usually billed daily (the rate is in your quote).

What if I fill it early?

Tell us and we will arrange an early pickup. If you need another one, we can schedule a swap: the full box goes, an empty one comes.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Usually yes, if you tell us before the hauler dispatches the truck. Cancellation terms depend on the local hauler and are in your quote.
