A 10-yard roll-off dumpster

About the 10-yard

The 10-yard is the smallest common roll-off. It is low, so it is easy to toss things over the side, and it fits on most driveways with room to spare. It is also the size haulers use for heavy material like concrete and dirt, because a bigger box full of rock would be too heavy to lift or drive legally.

To scale next to a 5'9" person. 12 ft long, 8 ft wide, 3.5 ft high, approximately.

Good for

  • Concrete, dirt, brick, tile and other heavy debris
  • A single-room or small garage cleanout
  • A small bathroom remodel
  • Removing a small deck or shed
  • Carpet and pad from a few rooms

Not the best fit for

Whole-house cleanouts or bulky furniture from several rooms. You will run out of room fast.

Loading tips

  • For concrete or dirt, fill only to the fill line the hauler marks (often about half way). Heavy loads are limited by weight, not space.
  • Keep heavy loads clean: one material only. A bag of trash on top can turn a clean concrete load into a mixed load at a higher rate.
  • If you are on the fence between a 10 and a 15 for general junk, the 15 is usually the better value.

Bigger or smaller?

a 15-yard holds about about 4 to 5. If you are between two sizes, the bigger one usually costs less than a second haul. Compare all sizes.

10-yard dumpster questions

How big is a 10-yard dumpster?

Typically about 12 ft long, 8 ft wide, 3.5 ft high. It holds 10 cubic yards, roughly about 3 pickup-truck loads. Exact dimensions vary a little by hauler.

How much does a 10-yard dumpster cost?

Typically $325 to $550 for a 7-day rental, depending on your ZIP, the debris type and local disposal rates. That is an estimate; your quote gives one exact, all-in delivered price.

How much weight can a 10-yard dumpster hold?

The included weight allowance is typically 1 to 2 tons. Going over is billed per ton at the local rate, usually around $50 to $125 per ton, and the rate is listed in your quote.

Can I put concrete or dirt in a 10-yard?

Yes. The 10-yard is the size for heavy debris. Fill only to the line the hauler marks (often about half way) and keep it to one material, with no trash on top.

Will a 10-yard fit on my driveway?

You need a flat spot about 12 feet long and 8 to 11 feet wide, plus room for the truck to back in (roughly 60 feet in a straight line) and clear overhead space.
